What is “anarchism”? What is “anarchy”? Who are “anarchists”? Anarchism is an idea about the best way to live. Anarchy is a way of living. Anarchism is the idea that government (the state) is unnecessary and harmful. Anarchy is society without government. Anarchists are people who believe in anarchism and desire to live in anarchy as all our ancestors once did. People who believe in government (such as liberals, conservatives, socialists and fascists) are known as “statists.” It might sound like anarchism is purely negative — that it’s just against something. Actually, anarchists have many positive ideas about life in a stateless society. But, unlike Marxists, liberals and conservatives, they don’t offer a blueprint. Aren’t anarchists bomb-throwers? (This article appears in Anarchy Archives courtesy of Robert Graham.) Chinese society is at the darkest stage now. Under such circumstances, young people become impotent and weak without the power to resist corruption. Even the brave ones can only keep quiet and submit to fate. When it is really unbearable, suicide is the only way out. China is paralyzed; where can we find happiness? Some conscious youth believe that the only way to improve Chinas current situation is to promote nationalism, and identify nationalism as the only road to happiness for the Chinese. Voices of nationalism have spread all over the nation. I shudder at such a thought. Nationalism is in fact the obstacle to human progress. Being a member of this society, I cannot accept nationalism against my conscience. I have to argue against nationalism and demonstrate the real road to happiness for the Chinese. My words are sincere... (From : Anarchy Archives.)
Madonna, “Are We Having Fun Yet?”, supermarket tabloids, Milli Vanilli, virtual reality, “shop ‘till you drop,” PeeWee’s Big Adventure, New Age/computer ‘empowerment’, mega-malls, Talking Heads, comic-strip movies, ‘green’ consumption. A buildup of the resolutely superficial and cynical. Toyota commercial: “New values: saving, caring — all that stuff;” Details magazine: “Style Matters;” “Why Ask Why? Try Bud Dry;” watching television endlessly while mocking it. Incoherence, fragmentation, relativism — up to and including the dismantling of the very notion of meaning (because the record of rationality has been so poor?); embrace of the marginal, while ignoring how easily margins are made fashionable. “The death of the subject” and “the crisis of representation.” Postmodernism. Originally a theme within esthetics, it has colonized “... (From : TheAnarchistLibrary.org.)
I am asked for my thoughts about the content and style of anti-war films, and how to make such a film. First of all, such a film must at least not do positive harm by predisposing its audience toward war. The images of senseless violence, horror, and waste that are usually employed in the commercially successful antiwar films do have a titillating effect and remain in the soul as excitants and further incitements. Let me show how this works. In cinematic conditions of bright screen and dark theater, lasting for many minutes and tending to fascination and hypnosis, images of horror easily detach themselves from the kind of intellectual and ethical framework in which they are usually presented, and they attach themselves to quite different subliminal ideas. We must bear in mind how a child wakes up screaming with his nightmare of the animated cartoon he has seen, the nightmare now expressing a kind of wish. Al... About the people and individuals of the past who have made up revolutions, whether they were active revolutionaries or brilliant theoreticians. If we know how they lived in the past, we might know what's possible to do today.
"You have noticed that the human being is a curiosity. In times past he has had (and worn out and flung away) hundreds and hundreds of religions; today he has hundreds and hundreds of religions, and launches not fewer than three new ones every year." -- Mark Twain

He was a firm believer in the working class's ability to reorganize society along fundamentally democratic and egalitarian lines. (From : Kevin Doyle Bio.)

• "In a sane and free society such an arbitrary domination of man's functions by either clock or machine would obviously be out of the question. The domination of man by the creation of man is even more ridiculous than the domination of man by man." (From : "The Tyranny of the Clock," by George Woodcock, 19....)

From January 24 to 29 2006 the VI World Social Forum -WSF- will take place in Caracas and in other parts of the world. The Venezuelan capital will also host the II Social Forum of the Americas. We are a group of social activists, artists, professionals, workers, leftist intellectuals and people convinced of the need for change and the promotion of freedom and social justice, we believe it is appropriate to open and maintain spaces for debate and the construction of the dynamics of transformation; however, considering the experiences of National Social Forums, the diverse Festivals in Solidarity with Venezuela, the World Festival of Students and Youth and the very conformation of the committee promoting the WSF–Caracas, the conditions do not exist to make the January gathering a pluralistic, independent, open, self-managed, and non-deliberative encounter as declared by the same World Social Forum. We therefore issue a call for an Alternative Social Forum duri... (From : Anarkismo.net.)

Alice Nutter (born Anne Holden, 10 July 1962) is a British musician and writer. Nutter is currently a scriptwriter for theater, radio and TV. She was born in Burnley, Lancashire and attended Towneley High School.
